Editorial: To get answers, ask the right questions

This is more of a PSA than an editorial, but this was the closest fit.

The sword is real. So am I.

I know a lot of people have a lot of questions right now, as we get very close to the launch of both Call of Duty: Ghosts and the new console hardware. I want to offer a gentle reminder that I work for Activision, so I try to answer as many Activision-related questions as I can — questions about the company, questions about Activision games (COD, Skylanders, etc), questions about Activision-sponsored offers (such as the Season Pass upgrade, or the Call of Duty account that lets you take your Ghosts gameplay progress with you). I’m here to offer as much insight to that stuff as I can, and I do personally answer nearly all of the messages I get at my Twitter and Facebook outposts. Plus, a good amount of Ghosts questions are already answered here, so please pass this link around when you see people asking stuff: http://bit.ly/1oSGhostsFAQ

Lately I’ve gotten a lot of questions I can’t answer — questions about what retailers for the first-party console companies are planning or doing. Things like “what exact time will Ghosts go on sale for digital buyers” or “when will the retailer ship my copy of the game” or “why doesn’t the new machine support backward compatibility.” I do not work for those retailers and I do not work for those first-party companies, so I simply do not have that information — I’m not the right person to ask. If you have a question about a retailer, its plans, or its policy, please contact the retailer. If you have a question about a console, the manufacturer’s plans, or its policy, please contact that manufacturer.

Now, that said, please keep in mind that I cannot answer some questions even if they are about Activision, but I will try. If I can’t, it might be because that question is what I call an impossible question. Check this article for more info on those cases. But know that if your question is asked in the right spirit and can be answered, I will do my best to give you a real answer.

If I don’t know off the top of my head, I will ask internally. I don’t always get the answers — sometimes the information is not for me to know (especially if it’s related in some way to the business aspect of Activision — I’m much more consumer/end-user/product focused), or it’s simply something that is currently under discussion or development, so there is no answer yet — but I do ask on your behalf. It’s a very large part of my job here. And sometimes, if I do get answers, you won’t like them — maybe you were hoping for a different one. I can’t control that; all I can offer you is the most accurate and clear information I can find.

Thanks for understanding. It’s crazy right now, but try to enjoy the ride. In just a few weeks, we’ll all be enjoying some new (and hopefully awesome) game experiences.
